'utopia's character

Björk's upcoming ninth studio album - details to be announced soon

'utopia's character

Postby HalfJack » Sat, Aug, 05, 2017 3:46 am

i find it with each album there is a character and ive kinda been joking that they are like tarot characters and im like a private investigator throughout the album working it out . each character always has colours , elements , symbolism , moods and an emotional journey they go through . the older i get i feel i am better with connecting it all things archetypal and therefore hopefully more universal and relatable . if theres one thing we can def count on it is that we are all always going to be going thru some sort of emotional progression , doesnt matter what race sex or age so we might aswell ride on it ..... , doesnt matter how

following bjork's explanation about each persona she develops for every album, let's try to guess how will this new 'utopia' character will be. how will it look? which colors will you associate to her? personality wise? symbolism and/or elements? let's play!

i'll go first:

colors: orange red, sky blue, brown
adjectives: cheerful, playful, flirtatious, cheeky, feminist
personality: it's all about, despite being a grown up woman, being able to feel like a young girl falling in love all over again. discovering yourself. youthful.

character - ish that sort of illustrates what i'm thinking, except happy, with a smirk on it's face

i really don't like the sky blue. it's lazy.
and it's like what the queen wears.
i am hoping for a happier colour.

I think she will use colorful materials based on natural objects like flowers and feathers...
inspired by birds and all sorts of life embracing things...

i like the transition between moth and bird. moth are intensely sexual but they are trapped and kinda vagabond u know, dark sexuality. birds they are instintive and can take decisions. they can fly to paradise if they want to.

oh you are amazing. thats a great metaphor! and this makes totally sense: turning from a moth (vulnicura festivals and notget video) to a colorful butterfly defending love against all the danger in the world. butterflies use their highly pigmented wings as a sort of weapon or protection against natural hunters. this means, live your life with all the joy and color it brings with it without neglecting dangerous times. in this case the music will symbolize the wings. happy and colorful. enlightened. facing the darkness and love is your weapon.

Maybe a bit of a reach but would anyone be surprised if the phoenix were a theme/aesthetic on this album?

I think it´s more like this concept, "the garden of earthly delights" it´s the paradise on earth, an artistic vision of what utopia concept involves.

colors: primary: sky blue secondary: orange, red and purple.
adjectives: harmonious, flirtatious, melodious.
personality: falling in love all over again, discovering yourself, youthful.

character - i think the sky blue is a very happy and pacific color, like a paradise. I imagine her smiling and sending so much love in the album cover. :sacrifice:
