interview magazine (german)

Björk's upcoming ninth studio album - details to be announced soon

interview magazine (german)

Postby tofu » Tue, Aug, 15, 2017 11:41 pm

this morning i found the interview magazine at a shop. i didn't buy it, only read it.
i made a few notes in my phone to memorize important stuff about the album :) (there are not really new facts, they don't talk about certain songs, the interview is about a lot of other stuff, like the masks, her relationship to her old music, sexism in the music industry, (sorry for my translation)
maybe someone can provide scans...

- the interview was in June in a hotel in barcelona: it was a listening session with the press and the album wasn't finished at this moment: it says that an icelandic choir had yet to be recorded, a few instruments are missing and it wasn't finally mixed. Björk talked about how her record company had the idea that the press gets insight in a work of progress, she wasn't sure but obviously agreed.

- the interviewer says that is sounds windy with flutes, harps and bird-sounds.
- björk said that her idea was that you sit in the clouds and you think about creating a world. that's why there is a lot of wind and air around you. it's about the courage to imagine what could be possible. its about utopia but she also says that there are song lyrics where she's kind of making fun of the idea of utopia. for example: why does it always has to be something new.

- she talks about the dating aspect of the album and how you, when you meet someone new, imagine what the relationship would be like.

- as a side note: she talks about how this time she didn't print out the lyrics for the listening sessions (like she did with vulnicura)

- she talks about arca and their friendship and how it evolved from vulnicura to now.

She did several interviews with representatives of the press in June. And obviously they all got the same information and were told not to ask too many questions considering the album. I guess there were also restrictions how detailed the press was allowed to describe the sound of the music. Perhaps it was also given by her team.
What I'm trying to say is that you won't hear any new information from these interviews made in Barcelona in June.

Yeah. it sounds kinda vague and extremely random given that it's supposed to be a promotional piece on the album, front page and all...

either they really didn't have much to tell back in june or björk and oli are extremely, extremely, extreeeeeeemely cautious about handing out information (which is kind of a necessity if you want to promote something).

I hate to say it but leaks are part of the business now. it has been for over 15 years. even prior to then but usually they were reserved for a few lucky ones, with the internet anyone is a receiver. if an album leaks, honestly it's all down to shit computer security and carelessness from the artist and/or label. Look at beyoncé, she's managed to keep both of her previous albums to herself, even with all those collaborations and everything. and she's currently one of the biggest female artists in the world, the media attention to her and the interest of the general public is huge. and still she manages. take notes!

Thanks for this OP.

Harps... Zena? :hyper: possibly maybe, probably not.

I think to us 4um folk it's not that new but to the average person/casual fan it will be new information. Us mega "suck her dick" fans will always know more than most about her projects.

Thanks for the info!

So this interview was done in the same days as the Dazed conversation… and the big new album interviews still have to come.

Harps? Choir? Dreamworld? Being in love? If Vulnicura was her re-approaching the strings&beats concept of Homogenic, then this one sounds more and more like another take on Vespertine. Interesting.
